How to Travel on Amtrak Video

Amtrak Vlog IAD to Lynchburg

I created this video to assist students or anyone traveling on an Amtrak train for the first time. I travel from IAD airport to the University of Lynchburg using Amtrak, as shown in this video.

IAD to Lynchburg Travel

**How to travel from IAD (Dulles Airport) to University of Lynchburg? **IAD is 3.5 hours drive, one way.

Best way to get from IAD to Lynchburg (LYH), and this is how I travel from IAD to LYH.

Uber or Lyft. It will cost $300-400 but this is the best way for a student who is travelling to USA for the first time and you might not even have a SIM card.

**For other students who have already been in USA for a semester, below is how it travel from IAD to Lynchburg. ** ----

Step 1: Take taxi/Uber/Lyft from IAD airport to Manassas Amtrak train station. You will not find local cabs in IAD airport. Washington Flyer taxi service is the only taxi service that is allowed to operate in IAD (Uber & Lyft are also allowed). It is a 30-60 min drive depending on the traffic. If you know someone in DC area, ask them if they can take you to the station. https://www.flydulles.com/.../washington-flyer-taxi-service

**Step 2: **Arrive at the Amtrak train station in advance (1 hr). There is a waiting room, wait there. Across the track there is a coffee shop (Jirani Coffeehouse), you can wait there but make sure to go to station 15 min before train arrives.

**Step 3: **Take Amtrak train from Manassas to Lynchburg. It is a 3.5 hour ride. Book ticket in advance from https://www.amtrak.com/.There should be a 4 hour transit between your flight and train. For example, if you want to catch 6 pm train, your flight should land by 2 pm. This calculation is based on 2 hours in IAD, 1 hour ride to train station, 1 hour buffer. Address of Manassas Amtrak station: 9431 West St, Manassas, VA 20110.

Step 4: Get off at Lynchburg Amtrak station. Contact admissions before hand and see if they can arrange a ride. If not there is taxi service. I don't like to take Uber or Lyft from station, they will make you wait a long time. I prefer Allied Cab (434-845-7093), but their taxis are pretty old. Tell them to take you to Lynchburg College. Email RA of your dorm ahead of time.

Other Options You could take bus from Union Station, Washington DC (1 hour drive from IAD airport) You can take Greyhound or Megabus. Frankly, this should be your last option.https://www.rome2rio.com/s/Washington/Lynchburg

SIM Card Most of you will not have SIM card when you arrive in USA. Get International Roaming plan by NTC or NCELL. Activate it before you leave Nepal and you will have mobile data when you arrive in USA. For NTC, call *1415# to activate international roaming.https://www.ncell.axiata.com/.../roaming/ncell-roaminghttps://www.ntc.net.np/post/international-roaming-1
